Does it still break the console settings?

Don't you use a mgl file for the cd part?

When I tried it first it broke my console settings but I also noticed that it was setup to run the console games in the future. As there are not many games specific to the CD I did not bother any longer and decided to wait.
Your suggestion is a good one and I may try it.

I haven't got any issues like this as you save the settings separately for the neogeo cd version.

I know and I think I will go with mgl:
For AES I use the console core.
For MVS I use the BlackWine core.
So for CD why not use mgl, even if in the future the MeoGeo-CD replaces the NeoGeo core.

How to make a bgl file from neo CD core? Is there any links to download this new upload?

The blackwine arcade NG core is a separate rbf. No need for a MGL there.

Did I say anything concerning MGL?

Nothing to do with the BlackWine core as far as I know.

Yes, saving settings causes the MVS AES core to only want to load ISO,BIN.
The CD core can load the AES MVS games but with no sound.

Reset MVS AES core settings, and reload the core to fix it.

No, you just change from system CD to AES or MVS and back.

Missunderstood then as you made a list of what and how to use it looked like MGL for all points.

So now, after using update_all, is the NGCD integrated in the regular Neo Geo core? I manually installed an unstable mister distribution file to be able to use the first versions of the NGCD core, will it now be updated and replaced by the official one? Thanks!

@AmanoJacu I am not sure what this core can do or cannot do, it is just by looking at what is in the OSD "System Type" where you can select AES, MVS, CD and CDZ that I speculated that at some point this core will replace the NeoGeo official core. This core is not official, it works with the current Linux and MISTer main, no need for unstable MISTer main. The problem is that all discussion happens on Discord, not this forum.

There is not much information on the forum for this core. In order to avoid any confusion for myself or any one else trying this core I have a few question.

This core uses the same NEOGEO.CFG config file as the console core. When I first tried a very early version of this core it broke the config file for use with the console core. I even tried to change the mode to AES and saved settings but it did not work.
With the current core recently posted on the forum @neogeo81 says that changing the mode from CD to AES or MVS and saving the settings will allow the console core to work properly. Is this correct?

This core supports several mode: AES, MVS, CD and CDZ. Which modes are working? @syntax_x says that it can run AES/MVS but with no sound. Is this correct?
What about CDZ?

On my system, in order to avoid changing modes and avoid some confusion (in the console core you can set AES in OSD and MVS in UniBios or vice versa) I configured my system as follow:
For AES I use exclusively the console core.
For MVS I use exclusively the unofficial arcade core from BlackWine.
For CD I created an mgl file on the recommendation of @neogeo81 and this where I ran into trouble. Everything seems to be fine: The OSD displays NeoGeo-CD as the core name, I can load CDs from games/NeoGeo-CD, the config is saved as NeoGeo-CD.CFG but the graphics are totally messed up to say the least. I was ready to post about it when I had an idea: in games/NeoGeo-CD I placed only top-sp1.bin for the BIOS. May be I should copy the console BIOS files also. I copied all BIOS related files from the console directory to the CD directory. This fixed the problem.
My question is: which BIOS files are REQUIRED for the CD core?

I thought the latest update of the neo geo core was already with CD included, so it's the official one from 24.04.23.

Go check the official Mister Discord channel for how to set it up properly. You need to have the CD and CDZ and another file in the main ng core folder.

That's what I understood, but I haven't updated my mister since last week, I've been quite busy, possibly I won't have time until next week to do it. I wanted to know if just using update_all would do the trick.

About the discord, I never find anything there, I see it more for quick chat that for having explanations, that's what forums are for.

I finally did a test to figure out what is going on between the 2 cores NeoGeo_20230223 and NeoGeo_cd_20230424 in relation to NEOGEO.CFG.
CD core in CD or CDZ mode and settings saved and starting the official console core:
The mode is automatically switched to AES but the menu says Load CD image. At this point doing a save settings and doing a "Reset and apply" or reloading the core does not change anything.
Only by changing the mode to MVS or MVS-> back to AES, save settings followed by "rest and apply" or reloading the core brings back the Load ROM set in the menu.
It is somewhat messy but it works.
Another solution is to close the CD core after switching to AES or MVS and doing a save settings.
The best solution is to use an mgl for the CD core which eliminates all interference between the 2 cores.

MGL file is either way the best solution as you want to have separte settings and folder for the cd games.

I tried to run samurai shodown rpg but no success. (latest rbf from april 24)

After I select the chd file, It appears on screen "wait for a moment" then "press start button on bottom left. When I do, it shows the bios intro and then the track selection screen again.

Am I missing something?

@pbsk8 on samurai shodown rpg I can get into the loading screen with the juggling monkey but that's it. It freezes and goes back to CD player screen.

On Turf Masters I get failure when trying to save game by pressing D at leaderboard.

As Sam Sho RPG is afaik the only game that won't even run on the SD loader, I wouldn't expect this to be one of the first games to run without flaws.

Can you have your ROMS and CDs in different places such as:
ROMS: /media/fat/games/NEOGEO --This is on SDCARD
CD: /media/fat/games/NEOGEO -- This is on USB0:
