Edimax Wi-Fi broken after 2023.04.23 update of Main

Just want to make a note that my Edimax EW-7822ULC USB wifi dongle that has been working for years is now not showing up after the latest Linux update.

Linux:

  • Updated realtek WiFi drivers (Grzegorz Krzystek).
  • Updated in startup scripts to improve WiFi startup.

I believe it is one of the recommended wifi dongles.

It worked perfectly up until the 2023.04.23 release.

Just wanted to make people with Edimax adapters aware, so they make a backup before upgrading. If this chipset isn’t supported anymore, not a problem, I can get a new one — but it would be nice to have it confirmed as either being on purpose or a bug.

Filed a ticket here for anyone that can add any detail on model number or wants to follow along:

Is it this one?
https://misterfpga.co.uk/product/mister ... i-adapter/

Hard to tell, as that page doesn’t have any info on chipset or model as far as I could see.

Currently confirmed broken by two separate sources in addition to myself is the Edimax EW-7822ULC.

Had the exact same issue. The patch linked to by NineX happily worked.

I have a similar problem with a different wifi adaptor (also recommended). I purchased this recommended wifi/Bluetooth adaptor:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YD ... UTF8&psc=1

Everything was working fine until the latest update, like others in the thread. Bluetooth works fine, wifi will locate the network and fail at connection screen. (I was able to get the wifi working with some router reboots etc, but it would always loose connection after a reboot of the MiSter.

Attempting to run the patch above produced the following output:

/media/fat/RTL# install.sh
creating backup
installing new driver
depmod: ERROR: failed to load symbols from /lib/modules/5.15.1-MiSTer/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtl8821au/._8821au.ko.xz: Exec format error
Done, reboot in 10 seconds
/media/fat/RTL# Connection to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx closed by remote host.

I am on a mac and this may be related to the hidden ._xyz files that OS X creates. I can try to run the script from my ancient windows box to se if it makes a difference.

Hooking up an ethernet cable will somehow force the wifi to connect on reboot.
