Premium cores?

I'm waiting for my mister to ship and reading up on getting started... I was watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlgbpgW4zBM and at 11:45 he's showing how to run the update_all script and he says that because he's a patron he's going to install the premium cores.

But ... What are the premium cores? Googling has lead to a bit of a dead end because I found https://github.com/jotego/jtpremium but there's a patreon link on that github that leads to a 404. There's a github sponsor page that does work, but I'm still not sure this is actually what's referred to as the premium cores. And a 2 year old reply on https://www.reddit.com/r/fpgagaming/com ... ores_work/ says you only need to subscribe if you want the beta versions of cores and that they're free once released.

But I'm still left not really understanding what I'd be missing out on by not getting the premium cores

Some core developers (e.g. Jotego) lets their supporters get access to early versions of their cores. In this case, it was probably what he called the cores before the current setup, which requires you to download a special file to unlock the beta cores before they are released to the public.

Jotego's patreon is this:

https://www.patreon.com/jotego/posts

If you are a patreon, you get access to the beta cores before they go public.
