N64 Core

Unread post by leosmendes »

Someone is already testing the n64 core, I'm getting an e27 error if I'm not mistaken, could it be a bad pif rom?

Hi,
You get E27 for which content ?
If it is for Namco Museum 64 you need to use big endian rom from no-intro pack.

Ed: The core is compatible just with big endian rom for the moment

Interesting...I'm getting an E26 with Namco Museum 64 (NTSC) (from No-Intro 2018) and the (hopefully) correct boot.rom (sha1 9174eadc0f0ea2654c95fd941406ab46b9dc9bdd).

The Namco Museum 64 (USA).n64 has a sha1 of 8ff73b91e62abe925ad475b166ea65b1a698dae7. I'm having a z64 with the same sha1 you've mentioned, but not yet tried.
Edit1: Ah, I see that the .n64 version is Byte-Swapped. I'm sure that this is the problem at my site.
Edit2: That was the issue. Game is starting now.

I found the rom, but I couldn't get into any game, after selecting it apparently crashes, but I'll follow the evolution

In his last Twitter post, Robert @fpgazumspass posted a video of Mario kart running on his latest version of the n64 core, is this version made public?

Its on Discord or you could build it from source. If watching a black sqaure go around a glitchy track is your thing. The core is a technical triumph but its not ready to "test"

I didn't think it did, but just tried without the BT dongle. It failed. Just charges via USB C.
is there a latency test app somewhere to check on these things as I know some are okay and some are slower than a ZX80 updating the screen while typing.

The controller is fast enough when using it with a Switch, I'd say it won't be much slower with MiSTer. Does it feel like a ZX80 to you?

Two versions ago I couldn't get past the Mario says "It's a me Mario" screen, do you have to do some special configuration?

Apparently that screen with Mario's head tends to be crashy, there are patches for the rom that remove that part, called "no face" patches I think. You can see in Robert's video in that Twitter link that after it shows the title screen it skips the face/head and just goes straight to the file select.

I thought it could be something related to the save memory, I tried several combinations without success, but possibly it must be a modified rom.

Someone here could do the charity of posting the most current version, I don't know why I can't get into the discord channel. Help with the discord issue would also be appreciated.

That screen on the tunnel that displays a view of the race wasn't working in emulators for the longest time. It working here gives me high hopes when it comes to accuracy of this core!

Be aware thats owned by an individual and may or may not actually have the correct builds

Much better to get them from the #Test Build channel on the Discord.
