Which Is the Better Option for Outputting Component Through Direct Video?

Hi, I have a Mister FPGA for roughly one year now and I always used the VGA port with a VGA-component cable to output to my CRT TV, but recently I decided to use direct video, since I can get a better color depth for the PSX (and maybe N64) core with it.

Then I realized that the component output has some compatibility problems when using direct video and you need a modded cable with a diode and a resistor to be able to use it, and since I don't have any experience with soldering, I bought a VGA-RGB cable and a RGB to component converter like this one https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005004686173736.html and then I connected it to the TV using a normal component cable.

What I wanted to know is: which one is the better option for connecting to a TV through direct video, a modded VGA-component cable or a VGA-RGB cable with a converter for component video? Is there any downside to any of those methods or will both of them produce the same video quality? I'm from Brazil so using the RGB cable directly on the TV is not an option.

(with these adapters you don't need to do any of that soldering stuff, it's done for you)

Regarding the Vention Converter, there are tons of brands on Amazon, I only linked to Vention because that's what I use personally. If you dig enough, there are version with Audio and Power, some with Audio but without Power, and some without Audio and Power. The one I use is the Audio and Power, but I don't plug in a power cable and it works anyway.

I know there exist other adapters also, such as the Ultimate VGA to YPBPR Adapter (https://ultimatemister.com/product/ulti ... component/), but the items I linked above are the ones I use and can confirm work flawlessly for me.

Didn't know about that VGA to YPbPr adapter from Ultimatemister and Antonio Villena, seems a much more straightforward way to connect via component video than using the SCART-YPbPr adapter that I'm using now. Thanks!

I'm wondering about this solution as well since I moved to a digital i/o board. I'm lag paranoid so curious if the adapters would add any. Djiem, by chance have you tried a NES Zapper with your setup?

I haven't used a zapper, and I don't have equipment to scientifically measure lag, but from my own playing and specifically looking for lag, I have not found that this setup adds any kind of input lag whatsoever. Controls feel absolutely flawless. I think that if you'll browse the forums, my experience matches others with a similar setup: no added lag.

Thanks Djiem. I use my zapper as a poor man's lag tester. When I pick these up I will test with the zapper and will give everyone an update.
