What's the difference? Aren't they both MiSTer input methods? Why did they need to differentiate?

I need to adapt my original joysticks to use them with the minimig and C64 cores. Should I go with the Retro Controller USB?

Daemonbite has nothing to do with MiSTer, it will work with any system allowing USB input.

Here's a modified diagram with the correct cable colors in case someone is using an aliexpress DB9 joystick extension (but check the colors first).

Works great with original C64/Amiga joysticks.

I'm sure it's nice but it's too expensive for my pockets. I'll make do with the DaemonBite/Arduino for the time being.

If you also want to be able to connect paddle controllers, I can highly recommend the Daptor PDL. However, the C64 and Amiga cores sadly currently only support the custom MiSTer adapter.

The difference between these two adapters is that the DaemonBite Arcade adapter can be connected to arcade buttons and sticks directly. It is meant to go into an arcade joystick and can be used with a 4 way joystick and up to 11 buttons.
The Retro Joystick adapter is meant to be used with an old joystick that comes with a 9-Pin connector it supports a 4 way joystick with a maximum of 2 buttons (e.g. a Competition Pro or Quickshot or one of the not so common 2 button joysticks).

You can just use the Sega Megadrive six button Daemonbite which saves wiring in the resistor. The controller wiring is the same and it allows auto fire to work on joysticks that use +5V. You will find most joystiicks without auto fire, the +5V removed from the DB9 plug too

MiSTer Addons Reflex while nice is expensive in comparison especially when you add the cost of the Bliss cables
