As id love to see what settings you have settled on and any Core Exceptions that you might be using as it could prove very helpful, THX.

It really depends on your tv's compatibility. My LG G1 is highly compatible with non-standard resolutions and refresh rates so typically I can get away with the following attached example. I take the default MiSTer.ini and modify these lines:

Code: Select all

hdmi_audio_96k=1
vscale_mode=4
video_mode=13
vsync_adjust=2
hdmi_game_mode=1
vrr_mode=1

and I add this exception for vertical arcade cores:

Code: Select all

[arcade_vertical]
vscale_mode=5

Ive got a 65" LG G1 and like you i swear video_mode=13 & vscale_mode=3 looks better than 12 (in most cases) CPS2 games and a few others just wont sync and keep losing signal though so i have to use video mode 12 as an exception instead, although i tend to find that if i use vscale_mode=4 with video_mode=13 it makes the picture look blown up and abit blurry on my screen.
Also vrr_mode=1 doesn't sync properly on my screen and keeps reporting the wrong refresh rate its always a bit off so ive had to use vrr_mode=2 instead.

hdmi_audio_96k=1
vscale_mode=5
video_mode=8
vsync_adjust=2
hdmi_game_mode=1

The area of 3840x2160 is exactly four times the area of 1920x1080, so I did not use other resolutions
